Primitive HAND hooked Turkey!

Remember those days from grade school when you would trace around your hand and then pull out the crayon box and make it into a turkey to take home for Mom to put it on the refrigerator for the Holiday season. Well I've been drawing around Sloan's little hands and showing him how to make turkeys and yesterday while he was napping I thought it might be fun to draw up a silly little hand turkey and hook up a little mat and that's just what I did. I finished the binding this evening and I hope to offer him on eBay in a couple of weeks.

My Mom bought Sloan this great lil' stick horse and gave it to him today. He loves it! He keeps telling me he's a cowboy and that he needed a horse so his great~grandma really came through. You push on it's ear and it whinny's and makes a galloping sound. He keeps saying Giddy Up....I'm a cowboy! When Papa got home he made a dash for the door and was out running across the yard riding his horse....I was hollaring "Whoa Cowboy"....that lil' horse and cowpoke sure do travel fast!

Autumn Welcome Free Doodle

As summer comes to a close it's time to look forward to Autumn. I've always enjoyed Autumn days. The pecans begin to fall from the trees and memories of picking up pecans with my sisters and Dad when we were kids. Dad would climb way up into the tree with great ease and jump up and down on the limbs and we watch as the pecans would rain down. Once we picked up enough and they were shelled Mom would make a pecan pie....YUM!

This autumn our Dad more than likely want be climbing up any trees but I'm sure Mom will be making some pecan pies. Dad has been diagnosed with vocal cord cancer and will be undergoing surgery in just a few short weeks. The prognosis is good but the road to recovery will be the difficult part. Please keep him and my Mom in your prayers as they undergo this journey in their life.

Well with all that said here's a free lil' doodle to Welcome Autumn wouldn't it look great as a little punch needle , hooked rug, or even embroidery sampler....enjoy and please give me credit as the designer.

Needle Punch Jack~O~Cat and A New Set of Wheels!

I finally put the last stitch in this great design by Brenda Gervais. "Jack~O~Cat in his Halloween Costume was fun to make. The penny rug turned out perfect for a little table display. I plan on putting it on eBay later tonight.

This lil' fella will be having a birthday in about 3 weeks but I just couldn't resist giving him a early present. He has decided that the lil' car that he used to learn to walk with was a skateboard which was a little bit on the scary side as boys will be boys and try all kinds of things. So what's a grandma to do...why buy a skateboard!

So as you can see he's been trying out his new set of wheels. I think I might be investing in a helmet as I'm sure he plans on taking it outside.

Two Gobblers!

This was a pattern I purchased last year while we were on vacation in the New England States. We stopped by Linda's home (no blog) to see all her beautiful wools and hooked rugs she has in her New Hampshire home. While there I fell in love with her turkey rug that she had. It's a pattern by Primitive Cupboard. I finished hooking it last night so this Gobbler is all ready for Autumn to arrive!

Just had to share my other lil' Gobbler! He had just had a bath and was ready for a bite to eat. He loves corn on the cob can you tell?
I think he's the cutest gobbler of all!

Halloween Offerings

Autumn Days will be here soon and the days are already getting shorter. We have been enjoying some much needed rains. I finally put together a pattern of "Mr. Pennyworth" and am offering the pattern on eBay and on my selling blog.

Jenn made this wonderful Jack O'Lantern and you can also find it on the selling blog. She did all the punching and I finished it for her...seems like she is much like her Mom enjoys the punching but the finishing and figuring out what to make it into is another story.

This whimiscal lil' witch brewing up some Halloween fun will be on eBay on Sunday evening.

I've got several other items I just need to put the finishing touches on hopefully this weekend I'll find some stitching time.

Have a great weekend!

Just Another Doodle

I've been drawing lots of pumpkin guys and gals it seems lately and thought I would share one with you. Hope you like Jack and his cat "Moonshine"....Feel free to use the doodle however you choose but please give credit to me as the designer.

The temperatures are finally cooling down a bit after we received some much needed rain. It is sure to help the mums I planted last weekend. I'm so ready for fall weather after such a hot, sticky summer.

This week I stuck it out and bound three rugs which is quite a challenge for me...like to hook em' but binding is another story. I did put another rug on the frame a great lil' turkey designed by Dyed in the Wool. I have several items I need to list on eBay just got to get all the pictures taken maybe I'll find some time this weekend.

A Free Doodle And The Last Loop!

A few nights ago I finished pulling up the last loops on the Peace On Earth Rug. It is one of my favorites now to get to the binding. I plan to hang it over the fireplace for the Christmas holidays.

Now on to the free doodles....great for needle punch, rug hooking, applique, or redwork. Enjoy and please give credit to Primitives By The Light of The Moon.

I've been putting the finishing touches on some needle punch pieces Jenn and I have been doing. I hope to have some listed on eBay soon. I will be closing my LPS shop and CFP shop soon. It's been a great place to have our handmades but it seems like there is never enough time in the days lately to keep up. Thanks to all who stopped by to see what we were offering over the last year.

Would You Like to Win A Pumpkin Patch Pinkeep?

I made this little pinkeep last weekend straight from the scrap basket. I made the little pumpkins 3~D by stuffing them with bits of wool and it is completely handsewn and made of 100% wool. Inside is filled with crushed walnut shells that will keep your pins and needles nice and sharp. Even if you don't sew it would make a great little bowl filler or just tuck it up on a shelf.

So if you would like to enter to win just leave a lil' comment on this post and if you don't have a blog remember to leave an email address so I can notify you if you win.

I'll draw a name on Wednesday evening, September 2nd.

A Little Each Day!

I've steadily been putting in 10 minutes of hooking each night and the Peace On Earth Rug is almost done. It's been fun seeing how each part comes together. I can't seem to find any time during the day due to an active lil' boy. I caught him climbing in a chair today and up into the windowsill to have a closer look at the cows.

I did find a little spare time to make a new penny rug. Autumn days will be here soon and I've been in the mood for a little pumpkin making. I might even have to open up the cupboard doors and find some goodies to make some muffins.

Here's a tasty treat "Pumpkin Bran Muffins" and they are only 1 point on Weight Watchers.

Here is what you need:
2 cups All Bran or Fiber One Cereal
1 Cup Skim Milk
3/4 cup canned pure pumpkin
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1 egg
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/4 cups flour
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

Mix cereal and milk: let rest 5 minutes. Add pumpkin, egg, spice and brown sugar. Stir until mixed. Add flour, salt and baking powder. Mix together. Spray your muffin tin with cooking spray and bake at 350 degrees for 18 to 20 minutes or until toothpick comes out cleanly.

Be sure to check back later this week I'll be having another giveaway.

How We Spent A Hot Summer Day!

Popsicles are a good way to cool off but a trip to the....

Zoo was what we did today. Just my lil' sidekick and me! He just makes my day brighter!

We rode the Centennial train two times and he just loves it when they sound the whistle!

He wanted to walk up to the big buffalo and see it...he thought it was a bull. Must come from being out here on our farm so much.

The rhino's were out today.

He had to ride the lil' bronze one!

It was really hot here today and the zoo wasn't busy at all. We spent about 4 hours at the zoo and we both had a really good time. We had to visit the gift shop before we left and Sloan found some turtles and a big plastic fish that looked like Nemo that we had to bring home to play with tomorrow.

Hope you enjoyed your day and someone brought some sunshine into your day!

~Zumba~

Well I've gone and done it again...done something I never thought I would do! Jenn has talked me into joining a Zumba class and we have been going for weeks. Well her Mom can't dance and she sure can't rock and roll but I must say I've actually enjoyed the work out. Now if you don't know what Zumba is let me explain....It's a bit of merengue, salsa, reggaeton, and hip~hop!!!
This ol' body can't move as fast as those young gals but it's a great work out.
Jenn has always been able to dance (didn't get that from Mom or Dad) and she has decided to go get certified and become a teacher! This coming from a kid that never use to like to exercise but hey it's really just an hour of fun dancing! She wants to take the Zumba Gold geared towards the older crowd....maybe there is help on the horizon for her dear ol' Mom!!

I'm sorry about the delay on the Primitive Sampler....I promise I'll get the last lil' doodle on here in a day or two!

DeCluttering The Sewing Room

Slowly but surely I am decluttering the sewing room. My crafting habits change throughout the years. I had a great passion for making quilts at one time and still plan to make a few more in the future. Goodness knows I don't need over 100 quilting books...yes I said one hundred!!!
So I began a new blog and listed tons of them there to offer on to someone who might get a bit of joy out of them at a very huge savings. So if you have time just pop over to Happy Trails Primitives and have a look.

You can email me at gsjackson1962@yahoo.com if you find something that you would like.

Hope you have enjoyed your weekend and that the coming up week will have many blessings in store for you.

Counting My Blessings

Hello Dear Friends.....
It's been one topsy turvy week....What was right side up went wrong side up and I know each of you have had days or weeks that have been like that. I have to say with God in every circumstance I can and will make it through. So today I've planted a smile on my face, wiped away a few tears, and am counting my blessings!

One of my blessings in life is "Danny" and yesterday was our 28th Wedding Anniversary.....I count each year a milestone. A year of joys and sorrows, of smiles and yes a few frowns! Days where we hold hands and days where we need a lil' space. Days where we help each other up with an encouraging word or an unspoken prayer. So as we continue this journey and grow older and joys and sorrows come our way I want to walk hand in hand with him by my side.

Well folks I've started another blog. I hope to declutter my sewing room and downsize some of my HUGE stash of quilting supplies, books, and oh so much more! So when you have some time hope you'll stop over at Happy Trails Primitives and see what I plan to offer.

Hope each of you have a wonderful weekend and remember to count your blessings!

Whiskers My Big UFO~ No Problem!

Whiskers is a pattern I bought last September while on a trip to Texas with my Dad to visit his brother. I was lucky enough to go to Stonehill Spinning in Fredericksburg, Texas. If your ever near Fredericksburg and like rug hooking it's a great shop to visit.

Well ol' Whiskers has been sitting in the UFO pile too long so what a great place to start on the 10 Minute Rug Hooking Challenge. It sure will be nice to have it done. It measures about 20 x 62 inches. I may have to have a challenge to bind all the rugs I already have hooked!

I sure want to have this one finished up for fall and we all know it's just around the corner!

This end is completely hooked.

I knew that once I got started I would have trouble putting down the hook. With progress like this I should have it done by next week.

We took Sloan to a calf sale yesterday and he sure enjoyed seeing all the calves and also the cowboys! He may just grow up to be a cowboy!
