Tutorial on Finishing A Punch Needle Project

I have a lot of needle punched pieces and there are a lot of different uses for them.  Ornaments, pillows, pictures, stockings, door greeters, book covers, little stuffed dolls, pins, necklaces, pincushions, and the list goes on and on.

I made some simple little videos to show you how I finished the piece above.  The pattern will be available in a couple of weeks if you are interested.  I used Valdani pearl cottons size #8 but you can use your favorite threads.

Log Cabin Seasons

It's been raining so much and the temperatures have been so cool for April.  In the evenings I grab my punch needle and spend a little time punching.  I designed the Log Cabin Seasons they can be made into little mug rugs or enlarged for little mats.

I used Valdani pearl cottons size #8 for the samples.  I have listed the pattern for the Log Cabin Seasons as well as the patttern below "Little Log Cabin On The Prairie" over  at my etsy if you are interested.

Little Betty Rae is getting so big and has been walking quite a bit.  She wants to keep up with her big sister and cousin.

Eva Mae turned 3 years old on Sunday!  My goodness it is amazing how fast 3 years has gone bye.

Sloan is getting to where he has a lot of fun taking selfies and each day that I have him seems like I have new ones and videos on my phone!  Today we were at the office after he got out of school and kept himself entertained as you can see!

It is suppose to warm up later this week and I must say I am looking forward to some warmer days even if it does mean back to mowing the lawn and outside chores!  For now think I will find my punch needle and see what happens :)

Little Log Cabin On The Prairie

I have been punching again with the Valdani Pearl Cotton #8's.  Such wonderfully dyed colors.
The Little Log Cabin On The Prairie is a pattern I will have available later this week.  You will be able to find it in my etsy shop.

Our spring days have been filled with lots of rainy days....the grass is so green and the skies have been so very blue.  Our big red barn is still waiting to be built.  The rains have delayed the builders but we shall not complain about the rains that bring moisture to our pasture grasses and ponds.  We shall just call them showers of blessings!

We are very thankful to have my dad back out of the hospital again.  He had quite a bad week last week and we so appreciate all the thoughts and prayers.

This weekend we will celebrate the 3rd Birthday of Eva Mae....my goodness how fast time goes by.

I've been hooking, punching, and crocheting in between work, little league baseball games, and everyday chores.  I even tag along a little project to work to do any chance I can get :)  I day with stitching or hooking makes for a happy day here at the farm!

Farm Fresh

Farm Fresh is always best!  I've been punching quite a bit lately and using lots of Valdani pearl cottons.  Sure love the way the colors flow throughout your pieces.

In A Pear Tree

We are starting to warm up and boy does the sunshine ever feel good!  We were very fortunate to get some rains and that always helps the pasture grass and the ponds.

While the days are getting longer and a bit warmer....I've been punching things for Christmas!
New little patterns for later on in the year.  I have to get a head start for the days I will spending at Silver Dollar City.
In a Pear Tree was punched with #8 Valdani threads and I really like how the color flows.

I also, started a hooked rug....this one won't be a pattern will be a finished rug for sale later on in the year.

Spring Break for Oklahoma is this week and there are a lot of excited kiddo's ready to enjoy a break from school.

Our littlest grand Miss Betty Rae celebrated her 1st birthday!
The year flew by so fast.....
This little gal loved having cake :)

With A Hook and A Punch!

September is quickly passing and we have been busy working at Silver Dollar City and have met so many wonderful folks.   Ann's husband Bill came out for a visit and gave her quite a surprise showing up a few hours early.  She didn't recognize him at first :)

Loved seeing him dressed the part for the 1800's.....

Mr. Bill had never punched before but as luck would have it Ann taught him how within a matter of minutes and soon he was showing the kiddos how to punch :)

By the 2nd day he was giving out info like a pro!  Thanks Bill for helping us gals out!

Sandy met us last year and bought an Oxford Punch needle and look at some of the great rugs she made!  She tried all sorts of yarns and did a FANTASTIC job on all of them!  I just love seeing what everyone makes.

There are lots of different crafts going on and I stopped on my way back from delivering a package to take a quick picture of a man making a rolling pin.  He was making it on a lathe turned by the big wheel.

Wishing each of you a weekend of smiles :)

Fall Festival at SDC

What a surprise Danny came out to Branson last night late to see me and is staying the weekend.  We quickly put him to work demonstrating Oxford Punch Needle.  He had a pumpkin made by the time the day was over.    I will show it to you soon as I get it pressed!

Just look at all the kids surrounding Ann wanting to learn how to punch isn't it great!  Even kids can punch.

We are having a great time at Silver Dollar City at the Harvest Craft Festival.  Love the music played throughout the day and all the visitors stopping by our booth.  It is a great way to teach folks of all ages how to do punch needle, oxford punch, rug hooking and locker hook.

Miss Betty is getting so big while I am gone....sure do miss this lil' darlin'

Of course Eva Mae is missed lots by Momo, too I talk to her on the phone and she is full of energy and excitement!

Sloan was thrilled when I sent him a card about missing him.  He got new glasses while I have been gone.  The lil' toot has learned how to do face talking on the phone so while I was talking to him this evening we were getting a big kick out of seeing each other as we talked.

Momo sure misses those kiddos!

I did a quick little youtube video to help out some beginning needle punchers if you want to check it out.  Here is the link....

Autumn Blessings and Off to the 1800's

My sweet and talented friend Betty sent me some wonderful handmade blessings in the mail.  This Jack O'lantern is so cool and is mounted to an awesome painted box and is filled with treats.

Also, this darling sheep stuffed and on old wood thread spools with a cute little wool tail and ear.

Even more a great pumpkin pin with a little key attached and two great smelling cowgirl soaps, an awesome necklace made of wool applique on one side and cross stitch on the other and a gift card to Freddie's.
My goodness the box was packed to the brim with so much wonderful things.  Thank you Betty you are such a generous gal and such a dear friend!

Well, I have been packing the truck and the cargo trailer along with Danny's help!  I lack just a few things and if I forget something oh well :)
The little girls have been sick so have been over helping Jenn out as much as I can and hoping by tomorrow they are ALL feeling better.....Momma Jenn included!  It is hard having sick babies and not feeling well yourself.

Sloan has had his grandparents on his Mom's side up staying at his house and his PaPa fell and broke 2 ribs so they have extended their stay for a few more days.  Praying he gets better real soon.  Tomorrow after school I promised Sloan we will go get one more snowcone before I head off to Missouri.   I'm going to miss those kiddos and of course the rest of the family!  Good thing we have all this wonderful technology to keep in touch.

I will try to update my blog and show you what is happening!  Wishing you all a Happy Autumn :)

Bits and Pieces

Oh how I have neglected blogging.  I have been hard at it getting ready for this fall being away from home for 2 months and vending at a show and then at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO takes time away from the computer.
I will be vending SEPT 6TH, in Warsaw, MO at the community building from 9 am to 3 pm.  If you are in the area it is a wonderful show with lots of vendors!

Then I will be teaching Oxford rug punch and needle punch on Sept 8th at the Saltbox Primitive Woolens in Warsaw, MO.

Then Ann and I will be off to Branson, MO where we will step back into the 1800's for 7 weeks and be craftsman demonstrating rug hooking, rug punch, locker hook, and needle punch at Silver Dollar City!  I have found out that my cabin will be located right behind the gazebo where the performers sing and dance on the main square..... If you are visiting that area from Sept 12- October 26th we would love for you to stop by and say Howdy :)

I've been making lots of magnets, hang tags, and little canvas pictures along with boxes and other things with the paintbrush and paints.

Mom made this wonderful dish towels and they look just too cute to use!
I wrapped them up and have them packaged and ready to go.

In between all the crafting  we have been busy checking out the spiders and bugs after Sloan gets out of school each day.

Can you believe this boy is in FIRST GRADE!  He will turn 7 in October and he is growing up so fast!

I have been finishing the binding on lots of things and making more pins and stockings.

Scrappy rugs got bound.

Needle punches still need the finishing touches and I leave in 2 WEEKS....I think I can, I think I can!

Been crocheting and braiding little coasters.

To top it off this lil' gal is going to preschool 2 days a week for 2 1/2 hours and she is upset that they haven't left yet!  She knows all her abc's and can already count to 26!

Here is a picture of both Eva (as a baby)  and Betty wearing a shirt supporting our business.  Miss Betty is growing like a weed.....she is such a good baby and can sleep through just about anything!

Yes I am going to miss this kiddos while I am gone!

I will have to another post in the next few days and let you see what a SPECIAL FRIEND sent me.....it was quite a surprise and I'm so blessed by her friendship!

Now you have seen the bits and pieces that have been keeping me busy......hope you enjoy the bits and pieces of your days as much as I do!

Traveling Sewing Boxes and Stacks Of Patterns!

The weeks are slipping away as I am packing and finishing goods for the 2 months that I will be in Branson, Missouri at Silver Dollar City.  I finished up these 5 boxes during the last 2 evenings and inside is a plain little wool pinkeep filled with snippets of wool and crushed walnut shells.  I have about a dozen more to finish then it will be on to putting the finishing touches on a LOT more pieces I have in the last stages of being done.

The majority of the kits are made and with the help of MOM I have just over 1,000 kits!  She has been cracking the whip (just kidding) but she does keep me on track :)  It has been great fun working with her and reminiscing about days gone by!  Thanks MOM :)

She put together over 1200 patterns last week and then we added them to the pile that we had been working on over the last few months.  My booth should be FULL to the brim with lots of new patterns, finished goods, kits, and tools of the trade!

I will be vending at Silver Dollar City from September 12th to October 26th....so if you are in the area please stop by and say Howdy!

A Busy Summer!

Wow it has been a whole month since I have been on here!  What have I been up too????
Well of course the grands are a big part of the summer and we have been busy with the library, outside play, reading books, and baking cookies :)
The punch needle is still popping through the cloth in the late evenings after the grandkiddos have gone home.  The above piece is about 15"  across and I like all the silly sheep.

This lively rooster is one I did in a class recently with Heather Ritchie.  I used lots of different things to create the flowers and the bright rooster tail.  The edge is also crocheted.

I am teaching a couple of classes in oxford punch and decided a stocking would be a fun piece.  I have 7 patterns for stockings and mittens I will share the rest sometime soon.  I have included them all in a booklet.

I finally completed Betty's rug.....yes the lil' darlin' is 4 months old!  Momo is slow but sure :)

The summer is quickly passing and I have been in full speed getting ready to leave for Branson, Missouri the early part of September.  I will be vending for 2 months at Silver Dollar City.  So lots of packing, sorting, and packaging has been happening around the farm!

Hopefully I will be able to catch up on what all of you have been doing soon.
