Friends, Fair, and NYC

We started off the weekend with a group of ladies coming out to the farm for the day filled with hooking, punching and stitching. Pati Jane always is smiling!!!!



I had a table full of floss for the girls to take as much as they wanted. Can you believe I had lots left. I'm packing it up for my Aunt and her quilting buddies!



Sloan came over Saturday evening after the gals left to spend the night....seems like we haven't spent a weekend together since he began school. After church Sunday morning Papa and I took him to the state fair.



He enjoyed riding a horse, trying his hand at milking a cow, playing dart games and ball games. He won several prizes! I think he had a great time :)




Now a quick question....Danny and I will be visiting NYC the middle of October and want to go to a couple of Broadway shows so any suggestions? Also, have you been to NYC and what do you recommend doing??? We have been before but would like to hear some suggestions of what to do. We might even take a trip over into New Jersey. So with that said can't wait to hear what suggestions you might have :)

Oklahoma's Great State Fair

Bright lights, crisp cool air, the aroma of grilled onions intermingled with peppers and beef, silver dollar cinamon rolls, blue ribbons, beautifully groomed livestock....yes the Great State Fair of Oklahoma has arrived.
Yesterday was a little rainy at times but it was the perfect day to go to the Fair. We enjoyed walking through the livestock buildings and watching the 4~H and FFA kids showing their prize animals. They were beautifully groomed right down to the pigs. We reminisced of days that Danny showed his pigs at the fair when he was in FFA and how much the fair grounds have improved over the years.
There were clydsedale horses that stood so tall and proud, sheared sheep, and a petting area for all the kids to learn about farm animals. In one area we even saw a young man holding a baby kangaroo.
Of course you could see and hear about all the latest gadgets, tools, cooking wares, handmade signs, and more. We stopped to watch the lumber jacks as they held contest to see who could cut their logs the quickest. The log races are always a hit as they stand on top of the logs and try to roll each other off into the water.
We watched the pig races and rock climbing and then we went down the midway to see all the games with the huge stuffed animal prizes. There were rides of all kinds...some would take you high into the air and then just drop! Rides that would spin you upside down and side to side. Giant ferris wheels, roller coasters, and fun houses light up the night skies.
We shared a corn dog, funnel cake, turkey leg and we each had a jug of rootbeer. There was so much food to choose from it was hard to decide.
Buildings were filled with handmade crafts, homegrown pumpkins, jams, jellies, breads, cookies, and cakes that had been judged in their categories. Ribbons of blue, red, and yellow were placed on the winners in each event.
My sister Jane and my Mom entered several of their items in the cooking categories and each of them won ribbons and prize money. Jane took home two 1st ribbons in the Fleishman yeast categories with a whopping $250.00. Mom received 3rd place for her delicious pear relish.
My 8 year old niece Mandy entered a pillowcase she made and won 3rd place. She will be back next Saturday with her big sister Erin to enter in the kid's cooking contest.
My needle punch Mr. Pennyworth came in 1st place and has a big blue ribbon along with $50.00 in prize money....Looks like I will have some spending money for more wool goodies!
We had a great time at the fair. We came home tired but had a wonderful day together at the Great State Fair of Oklahoma!

~*~THE GREAT STATE FAIR~*~

THE GREAT STATE FAIR is coming soon and Mr. Pennyworth has found his top hat and his favorite bowtie. He can hardly contain his excitement just thinking about all there will be to see. Oh there is sure to be lots of wonderful smells as well...roasted ears of corn, fresh baked apple pies, ice cold lemonade, and the taffy pulling contest is sure to be a hit again this year.
The judges will be lining up to taste test all the wonderful things that all the ladies have made and all the handmade quilts and needlework will be displayed for all to see. The log cutting and greased pig contest are always a big hit!
Of course the men folk will be looking over all the new farm supplies while the kiddo's anxiously await rides on the giant ferris wheel.
Yes dear old Mr. Pennyworth is counting the days until the Great State Fair comes to town once again!

Hello Friends,

I must say that while I am busy in my craftin' room it just seems that these little pieces that I enjoy making just seem to come alive and gain a personality right before my very eyes. Actually Mr. Pennyworth is going to the Great State Fair and very soon. My sister Jane signed me up for an entry in the needle punch category. Now Jane is a seasoned veteran when it comes to entering in the fair. She is quite the cook. She won 1st place just a couple years back in the homemade ice cream category...Butter pecan cheesecake and MMMMhhhh is it ever good!
She was also selected a couple years ago in the Pillsbury Bake Off. She didn't win the million dollars but she got a great trip to Orlando, Florida and an experience of a lifetime. I was lucky enough to go along with her and watch all the fun. It is quite a production.
Now Jane has her two young daughters and our Mom entering some of their Prize winning recipes in the State Fair. Of course there is lots of taste testing going on before the big day arrives making sure everything is up to par!

It's been a busy weekend down here on the farm. We have had a few welcomed rain showers, the lawn is mowed, and Danny built us a new entrance gate he just has to put on the electric opener and will be livin' high class!

I also tried out some dyeing wool with kool~aid in a jar....and it turned out so nice. While I was at it I got out the crockpot and dyed some more floss. I just love how it makes the floss look prim.

Now I'm off to clean up my craftin' room before I can start another goodie or two.
