Scrappy Rugs and Keeping Warm

I have lots and lots of worms left over from projects and the scrap baskets always seem to be overflowing.  I made this wonky penny hooked rug and just love how it turned out.  Simple and no worries about keeping anything perfect.

It measures 20 x 26 inches.....guess what I still have a lot of woolly worms left!

Just about every Sunday after church we make a trip to Home Depot and most of the time I just work on a project in the truck.  This is my Home Depot project this week......crocheted fingerless gloves.  I just made it up as I went.  They are made of a nice wool yarn and with the colder temps on the way bet they help keep me nice and warm ☺

Well with the basket of woolley worms still overflowing I started yet another scrappy rug!

Just some random wonky hearts ♥

It's been a busy December lots of time spent with family and friends.  I do hope each of you had a wonderful Christmas and wish you a Very Happy New Year!  Thanks so much to all that stop by and visit my blog ♥

Wool Applique and Rug Hooking

Sometimes it is nice to simply use a kit and make some wonderful things.  I recently purchased some patterns from Cricket Street Wool while I was in Branson.  Carolyn Snyder owns the shop and does incredible work.  I purchased several patterns and several kits.  Her instructions are easy to follow and easy enough to make in a day.
In no time I had the little church pillow and the Wintertime with the deer pillow made.  I also, made two of the crazy clutches and they will be great for holding little tools for take along projects.

Then after finishing the wool appliques it was time to get busy with a little rug hooking.

I ordered this project in the beginning of 2014 from LJ Fibers at the Wooly Red Rug it is one of her annual hooked rug kits.  Primitive Medallions is quickly becoming one of my favorites.  I hooked all of this up in just one evening and I'm sure to be back at the frame often.  The primitive colors of wool look wonderful as each loop is pulled!

Thanks for stopping by to visit....hope you are having a great week and finding a little time to do something you enjoy!

Simple Christmas

Oh to remember the days of past where life was simple.

So were the days of childhood

the delight of looking through the Sears catalog

dreaming of candy canes in the stockings

packages beneath the tree

visiting with family far and near

A simple little Christmas

Can really be the very best!

Getting Old

Getting Old is Not Bad!

Sloan nailed it with this handmade card.  He has me needle punching and watching tv and just look at PaPa with his cane and hot coffee!    Don't you just love the tv with rabbit ears how funny!  I don't think Sloan even knows about rabbit ears on a tv then again maybe he does.
Think I will frame this card and put it in my craft room!

I've been doing a little embroidery and applique.  Simple little things :)

These little snowmen will be coasters.

Off to finish a rug on the frame...

Have a great start to your week and stay warm.

O Christmas Tree

I've been keeping the wool and hook busy making some fun rugs.  Can't you just imagine this dear ol' snowman singing.......

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree!
The leaves are so unchanging
Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree,
The leaves are so unchanging
Not only green when summer's here,
But also when it's cold and drear.
Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree,
Thy leaves are so unchanging!

Finished up this simple flower and sure like how it turned out!

Happy to say I have bound 4 rugs but as always still have more to bind!

Think I will go pull a few loops and see what those wooly worms will turn into :)

It's Chilly Out There!

Boy it has been cold and with the Oklahoma winds it chills ya right to the bone!  Hot chocolate sure tastes good on a cold and windy day.

It's a good time to bind on some rugs.  The snowman was oxford punched using a #14 mini punch with some of my hand dyed wool yarn.  Doesn't he look happy!

The penny rug was made using up lots of scraps and was hooked.    I love all the different ways rugs can be made I can't say that I am ever bored :)

Stay warm out there it sure is chilly!

Recently one of the things I demonstrated at Silver Dollar City was how to locker hook.  Here is a short video on the supplies you will need.  Join me in a couple of days and I will show you how locker hooking is done.  If you are like me sometimes seeing how things are made makes things much easier to do.

Supplies needed
Latch hook canvas
Locker hook
Scissors
Cotton yarn
Large eye tapestry needle
Fabric strips for binding 1/2 inch wide by 22 inches
Fabric strips for loops 1 inch wide in various lengths

Holiday Finishes with a Helper

I finished a couple of hooked pieces.  A fun little snowman hooked in wooly strips from 8 to 9.  Fast and fun to hook.

Added a patchwork piece to the back.

A chunky Christmas Tree with hand cut strips.

Another patchwork finish to the back.

Now to show you my help....

Don't you love the little monster peeking out behind the tree :)

Sloan wanted to do some tree trimming so he snipped off the tails.    Notice my son in the background with his big bushy beard...reminds me of the young red headed Santa we see on the old Christmas show.

Next he wanted to try hooking and wow he pulled 5 loops!

I should have got a picture of him grinning he has lost his first tooth,  maybe next time :)

52 Days Oh My!

Fifty two days is a long time to be away from HOME!  It sure is good to be back although I had such a great time at Silver Dollar City being one of their craftsman for the National Harvest Festival.
Everyone was so nice and I met so many wonderful folks.  The days began with opening ceremonies and this Awesome Eagle was brought out as the Veterans led a parade with the American Flag and the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem was done right in front of our booth each morning.

Here I am with my new found friend "Oreo" and if you know me I like cookies so Oreo is a fitting name!

We had several days that were on the cool side.  Danny was quite the sport demonstrating oxford punch needle and he has become quite good at it!  Ann helped with all the different things we had such as needle punch, oxford punch, rug hooking, and locker hook.

We sure appreciate each and everyone that stopped by to visit us!  WE had several repeat customers from last year that have made many new things and loved seeing some of the pieces they made.

Special thanks to Miss Cathy for helping out when we were super busy.

Well with being back home it has been a whirlwind of visiting the grands, unpacking, getting back to work with Danny, ballgames and catching up on laundry.

I've been listing supplies, patterns, and finished goods in my etsy shop and on the website.

Hoping I can settle down and catch up on blogs and seeing what all of you have been doing!

Thanks for stopping by and have a safe and Happy Halloween.

With A Hook and A Punch!

September is quickly passing and we have been busy working at Silver Dollar City and have met so many wonderful folks.   Ann's husband Bill came out for a visit and gave her quite a surprise showing up a few hours early.  She didn't recognize him at first :)

Loved seeing him dressed the part for the 1800's.....

Mr. Bill had never punched before but as luck would have it Ann taught him how within a matter of minutes and soon he was showing the kiddos how to punch :)

By the 2nd day he was giving out info like a pro!  Thanks Bill for helping us gals out!

Sandy met us last year and bought an Oxford Punch needle and look at some of the great rugs she made!  She tried all sorts of yarns and did a FANTASTIC job on all of them!  I just love seeing what everyone makes.

There are lots of different crafts going on and I stopped on my way back from delivering a package to take a quick picture of a man making a rolling pin.  He was making it on a lathe turned by the big wheel.

Wishing each of you a weekend of smiles :)

A New Oxford Puncher in The Family!

I have been out at Silver Dollar City and will be here until the end of October 25th.  Danny comes out when he can and he has been demonstrating Oxford Punch Needle.  Look at all he made in the last couple of days!

Each one is about 20 inches across.

I bet Sloan would love this pumpkin!  I will have to see if I can make them into pillows for the kiddos!

Next, maybe I can have him demo punching some stockings and give them to the kiddos for Christmas!

He was really good with showing the kids how to oxford punch and occasionally he was even doing the needle punch :)

We even had some men interested in learning how to do needle punch!  I think it is really great that so many people no matter what age  want to learn how to hook and punch.

If you get a chance to visit us we are at Silver Dollar City just outside of Branson, Mo.  Our booth is on the square across the street from the General Store we would love to see you!

Fall Festival at SDC

What a surprise Danny came out to Branson last night late to see me and is staying the weekend.  We quickly put him to work demonstrating Oxford Punch Needle.  He had a pumpkin made by the time the day was over.    I will show it to you soon as I get it pressed!

Just look at all the kids surrounding Ann wanting to learn how to punch isn't it great!  Even kids can punch.

We are having a great time at Silver Dollar City at the Harvest Craft Festival.  Love the music played throughout the day and all the visitors stopping by our booth.  It is a great way to teach folks of all ages how to do punch needle, oxford punch, rug hooking and locker hook.

Miss Betty is getting so big while I am gone....sure do miss this lil' darlin'

Of course Eva Mae is missed lots by Momo, too I talk to her on the phone and she is full of energy and excitement!

Sloan was thrilled when I sent him a card about missing him.  He got new glasses while I have been gone.  The lil' toot has learned how to do face talking on the phone so while I was talking to him this evening we were getting a big kick out of seeing each other as we talked.

Momo sure misses those kiddos!

I did a quick little youtube video to help out some beginning needle punchers if you want to check it out.  Here is the link....

Home Away From Home

Ann and I are staying in Missouri until the end of October .....we arrived at Silver Dollar city and we have a booth this year on the square.  Doesn't it look grand!  We will be here until October 26th and we would love to meet you!

Each morning at the opening we honor our veterans by having a flag ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem right in front of our booth!   What a great way to start the day!

Our first shoppers were two sisters from the Branson area we met last year!  Sandy and Karen two of the sweetest gals and we are so lucky to know them.

Here are a few shots of the inside of our booth.

Ann was a bit cold the first day we started  the day was damp and cold but we stayed busy.

Today the temperatures were  warmer and the sunshine sure felt good.

Back home in Oklahoma my mom and sis Jane have been entering contest at the State Fair with their cooking skills.  Mom placed first in the Bisquick contest with her Peach Cobbler winning a blue ribbon and $200!
Little did she know she was also featured on Channel 4 news for winning...congratulations Mom!

My sister, mom and my niece have all won prizes this year at the fair.....They have a few more  contest coming up this week.

Now to back track a little.  Earlier last week Ann and I came out to Missouri a bit early and stopped at Warsaw at the Truman Lake Hook-In and vended.

It was a wonderful show and we want to thank Patty Wallace of Saltbox Primitive Woolens  and her group they did an outstanding job with putting it all together.  The hospitality was above and beyond!  Thank you so much.
This is a picture of our booth packed to the brim.

Ann is such fun she is so full of energy.

Here we both are and thanks to everyone who stopped by.

This is my good friend Jan she is quite the wool sock knitter.  She has an antique sock machine and I just love the socks she has made.  They are as comfortable as can be.

We met with Jan and some of her friends for a day of rug hooking and fellowship and we can not thank them enough for their dear friendships!  Thanks to Pam for the hospitality of her home and kitchen what a wonderful group of gals we have truly been blessed.

Now one last thank you.....There has been several people stop by our booth and say they have visited my blog and drove all the way out to see me and meet me or have sent their Mom to visit and say their daughter reads my blog......Do you know how much that means??????

I will say it again.....I AM TRULY BLESSED IN SO MANY WAYS and thank you to EACH AND EVERYONE THAT STOPS BY TO READ THIS BLOG....it truly does mean so much.

Wishing you a week filled to the brim with sunshine and smiles.

Happy Trails.......Ginger

PS....I'm missing my lil' grands and of course the rest of the family, too.
