I use to make a LOT of quilts and as most quilters I have a LOT of fabric scraps.....so with the trusty rotary cutter, locker hook, crochet cotton, and canvas foundation I'm turning those scraps into a rug.
It's a great way to make use of scraps and these rugs are washable and last for a LONG time!
I've even been known to cut up Danny's worn out shirts and put them in a rug :)
Even ugly fabrics work great in these kind of rugs so think twice about throwing out those scraps and put them in a rug!

Oh I love this. Is that a canvas for a foundation? I would love to make some of these, and goodness, I have plenty of scraps!

I have wanted to try that for the longest time. Even have the long locker hook and the foundation. Lord knows I've also lots of fabric that could be used. But just haven't done it yet. Thanks for the inspiration.

my great grandmother had a rug loom back in the 50's and 60's and her rugs were made from old clothing and lasted forever....thanks for the lovely memory...I often wished I had her loom....don't know where it ended up...

I've never tried locker hooking, but it sure looks pretty! Interesting that you finish the edge before you start - hmmm.....

WOW Ginger you are amazing! I want to learn how to make a rug like this. I just gave away/got rid of almost all my fabric cause I wasn't sewing but...it won't take long to accumulate more. I need a lesson sometime in the near future!

I made one of these, but when I washed it in the machine, it came apart. I thought it would hold up since it was all cotton. Are you not supposed to wash them?

Doreen, I have washed mine on gently cycle and hung it to dry and it did not come apart. You might try just making up a bucket of soap and laying it outside on the cement and pouring the soapy water over it and then taking a water hose and rinsing it good....then let it dry in the sunshine. I am sorry you had problems with washing yours there is a lot of work that goes into a rug and you certainly don't want it to come apart. Hope this helps....Ginger
