Polyester In a Rug?

What using something besides wool in a rug? Well it's all about use it up and make it do! I had found some really cool polyester strips in some of Frank's goodies and I nabbed them up. Polyester strips of Dagwood and Blondie comics are the center of my flowers and they look really awesome.

Now I'm thinking about trying a rug in polyester and pantyhose! Makes you think out of the box. You don't always have to use wools if you want to try rug hooking. Even found myself using some homespun fabric in my farm scene rug. It blended in quite nicely.

The little house and flower rug above is a design by Frank Bielec and I sure enjoyed hooking it during the workshop. Everytime I look at it I'll be reminded of all the fun we all had :)

Happy Trails.....Ginger

That is what they did in the old days, used whatever they had and wool was a main fabric for clothing, but I have seen old rugs would cotton and other fabrics.

I have always wondered that, when I first started I someone had used all t shirts. I wondered how that worked. It looks wonderful in your rug.

Those old polyesters never seemed to wear out. How funny that you found a use for them.

I've thought aout using some homespun as well. I don't see anything wrong with using different materials. I like the idea of using up whatever you have. Your rug is adorable. :-)

Polyester will last forever and be washable. My mother use to crochet rugs our of hose and anything else that came available. Love your rug!

So lovely! I still hate that I had to miss all the fun. Maybe next time.

Using poly is interesting. I may have to give it a try sometime. :-)

I have some older rugs (maybe the 20's). One is hooked with fabric, mostly calicos and one is hooked with hoes in soft pinks and browns in a geometric that looks rather Navajo to me. Anyhoo, I think you can hook with what you want.

Hooking with fleece fabric works well and the colors you can get are fantastic. It doesn't fray so you have no little strings. Try it, I think you'll like it.

I mix some in with my wool when I don't have the color wool I need.
