Counting The Days Until....

Autumn....Just 57 days to go! It will be here in the blink of an eye even as the scorching hot days of summer are still here. I've been watering our tomatoes and cucumbers almost twice each day as they stay thirsty in their big tubs on the porch. It sure has been nice not to have to weed a garden and still be able to reap some fresh vegetables.

I've been in the mood to make fall items and I finished this one up last night. I go through spurts of working on applique, then off to needle punch, and hooking a few rugs or mats, and sometimes a little embroidery. It's therapy for my soul to keep my hands busy.

Thank you so much for all the well wishes and concerns for Sloan. He is much better and I took him for his follow up visit today. Just a few more days on antibiotic and he should be in the all clear. His appetite is gradually coming back and he's back to running full blast once again.

I hope to catch up on reading your blogs in the next few days and catch up on what you have been doing in your neck of the woods.

Every have one of those times when....

You allow yourself to drift back in time and remember those days that are now just a memory. I do a lot it seems. I like to think back of climbing trees, making mudpies, racing my bicycle down the street and standing up on the seat and letting the breeze hit my face.
Memories of walking home after school talking with my sisters of what had happened during the day. Oh how time slipped by so quickly. Remembering the first date with a boy and oh it just happened I married that boy.
The joy of being blessed with a little freckled faced red headed boy and an onery blond headed but sweet little girl. Summer days of wading pools, t~ball games, broken arms :( climbing trees, graduations and then leaving home.
Newer memories of holding another little boy that is now growing up so quickly. I must say I love to slip back into time and remember days that are now gone. Picturing my grandparents that are no longer here but when I close my eyes I remember...fresh baked cookies, hands that taught me to crochet, planting what seemed like endless rows of onions :)
So do you allow yourself to slip back into time?

Kids and VBS and A Few Minutes of Stitching!

I had the pleasure of helping with Vacation Bible School last week and I think I can say the kids as well as the adults had fun. My sister Jane was in charge and she really did a good job organizing the lessons, crafts, and outdoor activities.
The kids learned about children in God's kingdom. They learned action songs, made t-shirts, banners, crowns, money bags, and a lot more interesting things to take home.
The outside activities involved musical throne, obstacle courses, and building sand castles. Of course each day they enjoyed some special treats.
My niece Erin played a huge part in instructing the kids in the crafts and outdoor activities.

The American Primitive Gathering group that I belong to on eBay held a wonderful online retreat this weekend featuring Sunflowers. I did find a couple of late evenings to sit and relax and make a few little projects.

A very plain and simple wool sunflower applique.

Sunflower coasters so quick and easy!

I also got another sunflower and pumpkin cut out and just have some stitching left to do on this one.

Hope your enjoying a delightful Monday I know I am!

It's A LOVE ~ HATE Relationship

Confession #1 I love desserts....love ice cream, pie, cake, cookies, chocolate, cobbler, brownies, cheesecake, peanut clusters, if it's considered dessert I LOVE it! Of course it loves me right back.

Confession # 2 I love Mexican food! Of Course it loves me right back.

Confession # 3 It's time to do something about Confession #1 and #2.

It's A Love ~ Hate Relationship for sure.....love the desserts and mexican food but hate seeing what can happen at the scale!

Well Sloan is home from the hospital and is still battling the eye infection. It is starting to look better but he still needs some time to heal. Thank you all for the prayers and thoughts for him.

My Guy!

Our lil' guy has been in the hospital and he's been quite a good little patient. He's been battling an eye infection but we are hoping he will be coming home really soon.

He has been on IV antibiotics and it is finally starting to make a difference. Many prayers across the miles have been said for this little one and for that we are so thankful.

Sharing A Birthday!

My sister Sherry and my niece Erin share a birthday....it was actually on Friday July 16th. I think it's great that they both share a birthday. Sherry is 40 something and Erin turned 15 so next year she will be driving.

Here is all my nieces and nephews on my side of the family...we had a great time playing water volleyball. It was a great way to cool off on a hot summer evening.

Jenn our daughter kept busy chasing the ball for us when it would go out since she is still tending to a broken arm.

Dad stopped by the party he has been busy cutting lots of hay this summer.

Mom and I enjoyed a dish of ice cream and cake...My mom makes the best Mississippi Mud Cake and of course I had to have a taste.

*SIZZLING SUMMER DAYS*

It's been a HOT and MISERABLE week where all you want to do is find a cool place and park yourself there with a cool glass of ice tea or better yet an ice cream cone. (I've had the ice tea and been really tempted to buy some ice cream)

It's been a busy week running family to doctor's appointments, chasing one busy 2 year old, trying to keep up with the housework :( mowing the lawn twice because it rained so much the week before, and of course then there is work...the actual setting at the boring desk job so what's a gal to do???? Well dust off the punchneedle and grab some floss and get busy doing something under the cool air~conditioner.

Inspired by the volunteer sunflowers that popped up in the fence row and the bright skies of summer these lil' sunflowers are coming to life.

Hope you are finding a cool spot to rest on what seems to be one very long HOT summer.

Binding, Protesters, and Despicable Me!

Somehow I found a little time in what seemed like a very busy week to finish two more rugs. Do you find your summer days filled to the brim with things to do???? I sure do.
The first rug has been hooked for a couple of years. I purchased the pattern from Linda Spear of Dyed in the Wool while in New Hampshire about 3 years ago....wow how time flies.

The angel is a pattern by Maria Barton of Star Rug Company it was such a fun little rug to make!

Now to the protesters. Sloan's chicks like to roam all over the yard and what a mess they can make....oh they are good about eating bugs but what they leave behind well let's just say it was time to confine them to one area of the yard. Today as we let them out of their summer house they did some protesting wanting to run free but I think they have plenty of room.

Well we are off with our daughter and a friend to see Despicable Me!
Hope you are having an enjoyable Sunday evening. Well gotta run I can almost smell the popcorn.....

Flooding and The Magic Bullet!

Rain keeps coming down by the bucketfuls and it's been creating lots of flooding here in Oklahoma. The news channels are really stressing for parents to keep their children away from rising water as there have already been several fatalities.

This creek bed is usually just a trickle but it's a raging river right now. It runs from across the road from our shop and crosses under the road and runs into a nearby pond.

Our ponds are spilling over which is so unusual for being mid~summer. Oh the humidity is sure to be something else in days to come and I'm sure those pesky mosquito's will be out in full force.

I had never heard of the "Magic Bullet" until my daughter loaned me hers. I may just have to break down and buy one of these handy kitchen tools. It can make a smoothie in seconds and the clean up is easy....just my kind of kitchen appliance!

I think I can give up those buckets of ice cream for this low fat, low calorie delicious fruit smoothie....this one is mango, peach, strawberry, and blueberry and was 3 points on WW and was a large serving....I do love my desserts!

Hooked Rugs, Wool Applique and New Followers

I'm winding down on that HUGE pile of hooked rugs that just needed bound I only have a few more to go....although I do have several rugs started....so the cycle continues!

Sloan's rug is a pattern by Maria Barton of Star Rug Company. It turned out just great for a lil' boy don't you think!

Well last Friday I had a pile of scrap wools and some squares of creamy flannel and look what I found in all those scraps. I didn't use a pattern just started cutting guess what a lil' neighborhood was hidden in those scraps!

Now for my new followers....Sloan's chicks love to follow me all over the yard. I hang out the clothes there they are, water the tomatoes and there they are. They come running soon as they see me come outside...who knew chickens could be so much fun. I'm going to give my Mom one of the roosters she just needs to come pick one out.

This volunteer sunflower popped up in the fence row and it's a beauty.

Wishing you a sunny week filled with cool breezes and time shared with friends and family!

A Rainy July 4th Weekend packed with fun!

An overnight road trip to Tulsa was packed with lots of rain but it didn't stop the fun. We enjoyed going to the Aquarium and the hotel we stayed at had an indoor water park perfect for Sloan. Our son and daughter in law invited us to join them and we had a good time seeing all the different things that live in the ocean and playing in the water with Sloan.

On the way up I worked on some crocheted dishcloths to help pass the time.
Hope you enjoy the pictures....

Dan went down the frog slide and I must admit I did too! Guess some people never grow up!

(PaPa was worn out)

Could there be 2 of the same lil' boy....he had a great time making faces at himself!

It rained all the way back home....I'm certainly not going to complain with it being July the rain is more than welcome!
